His lips still tingled from the heat of that kiss. He had kissed Naomi Colton and that moment had been sheer perfection. But he found himself second-guessing that decision. He’d allowed a personal desire to intrude on his professional responsibilities and now he wondered if he’d made a mistake he wouldn’t be able to come back from. Knowing that she had wanted him nearly as much as he had wanted her eased his concerns about what had happened, but only slightly.

Philip was grateful that no one was up when he arrived back at his tent. No one around to ask him questions he wouldn’t be able to answer. Everyone was tucked away in their own enclosures. Even Brad seemed to have gone down for the night. He made his way into the enclosure and secured the flaps. Stripping down to his black boxer briefs, he lay back against the cot and thought about Naomi.

Women had always fallen into his path like leaves from a tree. They were sweet delicacies that he could savor, or not, as his mood dictated. He had rarely given any consideration to a long-term relationship, always choosing work before all else. There had never been a woman in his life who was willing to be second to his job. And because he’d often chosen style over substance, there’d been no woman he’d been willing to put first.

Now he was wondering how Naomi would feel. What Naomi would think. If Naomi would want what he wanted. Sleep came slowly as he tossed and turned from side to side, unable to clear his mind. When sleep finally pulled him into a deep slumber, Naomi had eased into his dreams.
